The end of the year is upon us. English 1 is meant to focus on young adults (like yourselves) on purpose. What life lessons can you take away from the literature read throughout the year?

the life lessons I got from the books and exerpts that we read throughout the year was that life can get hard you can experience death, rape, and the baddest things anyone can endure but if you give up your giving in to the negitivity and people trying to stop you.
ReplyDeleteA good example of this lesson is what happened to Ishmael when the civil war broke out in seirra leon. What happed was when he went to preform rap the war broke out killed his family, friends, and everyone he ever knew. He walked further than anyone in this school ever done, he could of given up and stopped his quest to save his life and his family but he didn't. Like my grandfather allways said " You may seem like that your in the worst possible place but in the end your just experiencing the tough part of life and you just got to keep on going instead of being a stupid person and giving up just because its a little hard, if you just give up cause its hard youll never get anywhere."
Another example of this is what happened in speak. melinda was raped by a highschool senior and had to deal with it for the the school year, hiding it and dealing with bullies teasing her. At the end of the book and the year she biult up the courage to stand up to him and came out told someone and faced the person that did it to her.
what i'm trying to say is that these books helped me relise that I should just man up, stop hiding who i am, and face the problems that come my way.
From the book Speak, I have learned to speak up and to stand up to what is right, and to not to be afraid to say no. For example when Melinda got raped, she didn't speak up, so I learned from her mistake by speaking up for myself. From the book The Glass Castle, I have learned that hard work pays off. For example Jeanette was poor, but she worked very hard to get to where she was (rich). From the book A Long Way Gone, I have learned that war can change people and to not give up when things get tough. For example when Ishmael felt like he wanted to die but he continued and ended up surviving. From the book possibility of evil I learned that people are not what they seem. For example the old woman look innocent, but she ended up making fun of everyone behind of everyone's back (with letters) without them knowing.
ReplyDeletei learned that bullying and rape is a great deal in school from speak because Melinda was raped and bullied throughout the whole school year until she spoke up. i learned that happiness is with your family from the glass castle because Janet was always happy no matter were she went. i also learned to stand up to fear because Janet stood up to her fear of fire. i learn to follow your own path from house on hose on mango street because Esperanza didn't listen to her father and became a author and now she actually ended up impressing her father. i learned that every has a dark side from possibility of evil because that sweet old lady turned out to be cold and evil on the inside. i learned that death could change a person from a long way gone when Ishmael lost his family and his friends
ReplyDeleteOn long way gone I have learned throughout the year that war can change a person. War can lead to sever PTSD. I also have learned that live life to the fullest, Based on the book Ishmael has lost their family during the war, he lost his friends. And was tough enough to not let himself die. I've learned that you have to have a little hope inside yourself and be brave for whatever upcoming event that can occur Another text that has taught me something throughout life is on the book called '' speak'' it taught me that to speak up for yourself no matter what. And don't let nobody bully you . Speak can be very triggered to other people who have watched the movie , When melinda got rapoed by a sneiuor she had to deal with that throughout her school year. WHich was really hard for her and for her to go through depression at such an age was hard for her. I think that we should speak up for ourselves and don't let anybody let you down .

Just like malinda she was bullied she was quie. She also felt locked away from the world like she could not speak.I also lerned from the glass castle that it does not natter were you are as long as you have family thats your true happyness.happyness does not come from an object it comes from the peopke you love. From the house on mago streat i lerned that tou sont allways have to live up to what society wants you to be or what others want you to be. The only true happyness is doing what you love to do.

ReplyDeleteFrom the book Speak,I learned that you can't trust no one even your own friends. The main charter Melinda got raped in a party by a senior guy when she was drunk so after that happened she called the cops.Cops come and arrested some people and one of the people they arrested was ex Melinda ex best friend brother. Her ex best friend and all the people at that party didn't know that she was raped so they blamed her for ending the best party of year and started to hate her. Melinda lost all her friends from that party. This showed me how being raped is a horrible thing someone should do through or even happened to. Melinda went thought this all by herself and didn't tell no one about it. This also showed me how a party can change your life and how to not drunk. But Melinda did have someone that cared about her, it was Mr.freeman the art teacher. He made her feel like herself again. At the end of the of the book the guy that raped Melinda tried to do it again to her but Melinda fought him and showed people who he really is.
